1. Instrument (in excellent playing condition) with a name tag for case

*New students only: since your child will select three instrument choices, please wait until Mrs. Murray contacts and informs you what instrument your child will need to rent or purchase. It is very important that your child not play with the instrument before the first lesson since these instruments are fragile and can be damaged if handled improperly*

*All students: please click on “music store rentals” on the website to obtain information about music stores with rental programs.

IMPORTANT!! Please do not purchase instruments online (i.e. Amazon, Ebay, Facebook marketplace, etc) or from a wholesale chain store (i.e. Costco). These instruments are not quality instruments and no reputable repair shop will fix them when they break. Besides your child getting frustrated with a bad quality instrument you will eventually lose your money because they will break. Please do not purchase online (from a store not cautioned above) before speaking to Mrs. Murray first. Cleaning kits from the stores are not necessary. You only need the items mentioned below.

A note on school instruments: we have a limited amount of school instruments. Priority will be given to students with demonstrated financial need. *Most students will need to buy or rent their instrument. *

Should I rent or buy? Since children are growing they will need different size stringed instruments over time until they are able to play full-sized instruments, I highly recommend that you rent an instrument from a local store. Typical sizes of stringed instruments for elementary school students are 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4. Please bring your child with you when you rent their instrument so that they can be sized at the store. I am also available to size your child.

* IMPORTANT!! If you find an instrument online from another store not mentioned above, please contact me so I can advice you on whether to buy or not.
